Typhoon Studios, founded in the spring of 2017 by a veteran of the Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed series, has announced its first game: Journey to the Savage Planet.
It’s a lighthearted first-person adventure in which players have been sent off to an uncharted planet that they must explore and determine if it is habitable. It’s launching in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
Journey to the Savage Planet got its premiere trailer at The Game Awards tonight. The cinematic-only trailer showcases the whimsical tone of the story, in which players work for Kindred Aerospace, the “fourth best interstellar exploration company” — as voted by its P.R. team.
Typhoon Studios was started in April 2017 by Alex Hutchinson, who had been creative director for Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed 3. Reid Schneider, formerly an executive producer at Electronic Arts, is also a studio co-founder. The company is based in Montreal.
“This is a passion project for our team, many of whom came from larger companies including Ubisoft, Eidos and WB Games to embark on this indie game adventure with us,” Schneider said in a statement. Journey to the Savage Planet will be published by 505 Games.
